BMV Smart Agri Debuts at the 27th ANEMBE International Congress on Bovine Medicine: Empowering Spain’s Cattle Industry with AI and Precision Imaging
27th ANEMBE Congress · Vitoria, Spain · May 28–30, 2025
From May 28 to 30, 2025, the 27th ANEMBE International Congress on Bovine Medicine (XXVII Congreso Internacional ANEMBE de Medicina Bovina) was held in Vitoria, Spain. BMV Smart Agri (a division of BMV Animal Technology) participated in the event, showcasing precision imaging and intelligent devices designed for cattle breeding, while sharing knowledge, innovations, and solutions with veterinarians, breeding experts, and dairy/beef farmers.
I. A Premier Annual Event in European Bovine Medicine
The ANEMBE International Congress, organized by the Spanish National Association of Specialists in Bovine Medicine (Asociación Nacional de Especialistas en Medicina Bovina), serves as a vital platform for professional exchange in the fields of bovine medicine and farm management across Europe. Over the course of the three-day event, we engaged with bovine industry professionals from Spain and throughout Europe, discussing topics such as reproductive diagnostics, farm management, and assisted reproductive technologies. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who visited our booth; your commitment to and interest in the future of the livestock industry inspire us every single day.
II. Reproductive Imaging: Flagship and Wireless Ultrasound Solutions
For bovine reproduction, the BMV BestScan series offers a comprehensive range of ultrasound systems, spanning from cart-based units to handheld, portable devices. Our flagship models—the BestScan S26 and S8 Ultra—are engineered for demanding field environments. They feature high-performance color Doppler imaging, enabling the clear visualization of blood flow within the corpus luteum (CL), while their integrated Android-based systems provide the robust computing power necessary for advanced AI-driven algorithms.
The BestScan S7 Pro series is a high-end 64-channel color Doppler ultrasound system, featuring a high-capacity battery that supports over 10 hours of continuous operation. Meanwhile, the handheld, wireless BestScan S23—which is fully sealed, IP54 water-resistant, and compliant with European farm biosecurity standards—along with the ultra-lightweight S10 Ultra RFID terminal, enables examinations to be conducted directly in the barn or out in the field.
Leveraging color Doppler technology, it is possible to assess the corpus luteum blood flow just 18 days after artificial insemination to help identify non-pregnant animals. This enables farms to re-breed them as early as possible, thereby shortening the period of non-pregnancy.
III. Estrus Monitoring, Insemination, and Backfat-Based Selection
The Breed Vision BVI-6 and BVI-7 artificial insemination guns allow for real-time monitoring of the estrus cycle in animals (particularly cattle), helping to improve breeding efficiency.
The BestScan S5 BF backfat-dedicated series features 155 mm and 180 mm extended linear probes, enabling a panoramic view of the entire loin muscle area in a single scan—eliminating the need for image stitching. The FarmScan S3 Plus and S3 Pro smart portable units weigh only about 150 to 250 grams; they support AI-powered automatic backfat measurement and feature integrated RFID, providing essential data for selective breeding and body condition assessment.
IV. On-Site Large Animal Imaging: X-ray and OPU/IVF
The large animal imaging suite integrates X-ray and endoscopic capabilities, facilitating comprehensive, point-of-care diagnostics. The BDR-30 Pro and BDR-32 Pro portable DR systems, paired with the Venu 1717XV flat-panel detector, enable the acquisition of diagnostic-quality images on-site, thereby minimizing stress associated with animal transport. Additionally, the BVI-36 Pro all-in-one endoscope provides high-definition internal visualization for respiratory, abdominal, and reproductive examinations.
For embryo transfer (ET) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) in high-value purebred cattle, the PulseTouch PT60, PT18, and PT28 touchscreen color Doppler ultrasound systems are optimized for ovum pick-up (OPU). They feature a specialized OPU probe with a 25 mm field of view and a 150° scanning angle, enhancing the precision of needle placement during aspiration.
V. AI and the Cloud: Moving Toward Automated Herd Management
A new generation of AI-powered imaging algorithms connects diagnostic data to the cloud, driving the transition toward automated herd management. The BMV Vet AI software supports cloud-integrated diagnostics, enabling farms to transform imaging, backfat, reproductive, and body condition data into actionable herd assets.
